I’m thankful for the sun & turkey … & baseball pants! – Maria, this one is for you!

One of my very good friends, Maria came to spend the weekend with me in Indy! She was once my roommate and we seemingly just picked up our adventures where we left off! There is never a dull moment with Maria around and I am SO thankful that she came to visit!! While she was here we even did a few things that help me to get closer to checking some things off my list.

Go to 5 “tourist attractions” in Indy On Saturday, we went to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The weather was dreary so it was a good day to be inside, but the museum does have a lot of hiking paths and beautiful gardens that would have been fun to walk through. Course I’m not sure how beautiful they really are in the middle of November even if the sun is shining! However, we spent a good chunk of the day looking through the different exhibits. There was no way we could get through the whole museum in one day so we had to pick and choose which exhibits we really wanted to see. It was great and for those artsy people out there I would highly recommend going! I plan to go back during the spring or summer months to tour the Lily House and the grounds. Also, did I mention it was FREE?!?! There is a fee for parking, but it is only $5 for the whole day. I was also reminded that sometimes art just doesn’t make sense to me! 🙂

Eat at 5 new restaurants This weekend I also went to two new restaurants! Maria and I went to ZEST! for lunch. This restaurant was featured on the TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” so we had high expectations, which were definitely met! It was a cute, cozy place. They had hand-drawn artwork all over the walls which we discovered was from people drawing on the table covers! Of course, we found the inner child in ourselves long enough to draw on our table as well! 🙂 Our waiter mentioned how awesome our drawings were so I posted them below so you can see how talented we are! The food was scrumptious! I had a chicken sandwich that had ‘special’ sauce on it and ‘the worlds best’ macaroni and cheese. It was tasty!

The second new restaurant I went to was Stir Crazy. Thanks to my LOVELY RA staff for getting 100% participation on our MAP-Works surveys we were rewarded with a staff dinner! Stir Crazy is a lot like Hu Hot for all my Iowa friends! I say it is a lot like it because its the same style of picking your protein, carb (noodles or rice), and vegetables and having them stir fry it in front of you. However, I would have to say I like Hu Hot better as at stir crazy you pick your vegetables in your bowl and then they put in the protein the carb that you choose, so you don’t get to mix and match the protein or carbs like you do at Hu Hot. It was scrumptious though and I look forward to eating the leftovers this week! It was also great to spend the time with my amazing RA staff! They are the #1 reason why I truly LOVE my job! I sincerely could not have asked for a better first year staff!

A bit behind..

It has been awhile since I’ve posted, I say this because I have completed some tasks since my last entry, but have lacked the time to write about them. So I’ll have to go a little ways back in time to tell about the adventures I have completed recently!

Watch the sun rise and the sun set in the same day Although it wasn’t exactly in the setting I had originally thought when I placed this on my list, I’m going to count it for now, but might complete it again while being more intentional! On October 14th I attended the ISAA conference with some of my co-workers and in order to make it to where the conference was held, (Fort Wayne, Indiana) we had to leave at 6am. That was an adventure all in itself, one I will spare the details of, but as we were driving to the conference we saw the sun rise. After returning to Indy from the conference, I headed to Iowa for a partial family gathering. Since, I didn’t leave Indy until 6pm and its a good 8 hours to northeast Iowa, I stayed at my good friend Alyssa’s house and ended up rolling in around 11:00ish. As I was driving to BIG town of Grand Mound, I saw the sunset. So I saw the sunrise and the sunset from inside a moving vehicle 🙂

Go to an Apple Orchard As I previously mentioned I went to Iowa for a partial family gathering. Some of my mom’s side of the family gathered at Gay’s Mill in Wisconsin for a picnic and to go to the Apple Orchards. The weather was great, the picnic was delicious, and the company couldn’t have been better! Plus, there is nothing better than Honey Crisp Apples and I got plenty of them! Below are some pictures from the Orchards 🙂 The rest of the weekend was filled with taking meals to the guys in the field, riding in the combine, digging potatoes, and other family filled fun! Although I know that fieldwork, being in the Dominican Republic, and fulfilling RA duties are legit excuses I wish Dad, Jeremy, and Jenna could have attended as well! You were missed!

Make a wish at 11:11 on 11/11/11 I made a wish at 11:11pm on 11/11/11. I looked at the clock at 11:12am and was like shoot I just missed it, so being clever I told myself I’d make a wish at 12:11 as that would be 11:11 Iowa time as I’m an Iowan at heart, but I looked at the clock at 12:12…Fail! So I set an alarm on my phone so that I wouldn’t miss 11:11pm and when 11:11 came around I was actually skyping with my mom and told her it’s 11:11 make a wish! of course it was only 10:11 in Iowa…so I made her be quiet for a minute while I made my wish. Of course I’m not going to tell you what I wished for as then it wont come true!

Below are some pictures from my weekend in the great state of Iowa!
