“Grandmother-grandchild relationships are simple. Grandmas are short on criticism and long on love.” ~Author Unknown

My mom’s mom is the kindest, most caring, warmest-hearted person that I know. She is also an exceptional card writer! Growing up, one of the best parts of my birthday every year was the card from Grandpa and Grandma with a dollar bill for however old I turned that year. I think this is why I have always LOVED snail mail! There was just something super special about the anticipation and rush I got from running to the mail box for the whole week leading up to my birthday checking for birthday cards. In fact, it was usually multiple times a day as I typically didn’t even wait for the mail man to come before checking because there was always that possibility that I somehow missed him coming even though my nose was pressed up against the window. ha! that love for snail mail stuck with me as I adventured off to Mount Mercy University.

My freshman year is when my grandma became like a pen pal to me. A few times a month I would receive a card from her updating me on what was going on in her life and I would reply, usually way late, about how school and track and life in general was going. It was nice to be able to let her know my triumphs and struggles as I knew no matter what I told her in those letters that she was going to love me just the same. Sometimes she may not have understood what I was doing or why I was doing it, but she always supported me 100%.

I loved walking by my mailbox and seeing a real letter inside as oppose to campus advertisements or bills. I looked forward to receiving her updates as well, she always found a way to keep me in the loop and to make me feel special. It was always nice to know that she was thinking about me and that she took the time to write, no matter how long it had been since I had written her. Even more, sometimes her cards had surprises in them and who doesn’t like surprises?!

Since moving to Indianapolis, even though my love for snail mail still remains (hint.hint) I have become a horrible pen pal. I cannot even remember the last time I wrote Grandma a card. It has probably been 2-3 months 😦 SO, I completed the ninth out of Complete 10 Pinterest Projects for my grandma! Afterall, I don’t want her to forget who I am or to be put out of the running for grandchild of the year! JK!! I know for a fact that I have awesome cousins and that she loves all of us! I changed some of the words to better match and used flowers instead of butterflies, but the overall idea came from Pinterest. This was just put in the mail today, so if you are reading this…PLEASE DON’T SPILL THE BEANS!!!! Check out the finished product. I love you Grandma!! ❤

Also, if you'd like to send your own snail mail I would LOVE it! I am vowing to get back to my good card writing habits so will for sure return the joy of receiving snail mail! Lucky for me I live on campus so my address is the same as the Universities so I feel comfortable publicizing it to the whole world (haha okay to the 7 people who will actually read this). The address is 1400 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227
